Welcome! I'm so glad you're here.
Abby Mento Virginia trauma and perinatal therapist
Abby Mento, LCSW, PMH-C
Pronouns: She/her

I am a licensed clinical social worker and perinatal mental health specialist based in Richmond, VA and currently offer individual, virtual therapy to anyone in the state of Virginia. My professional background includes nearly a decade of working clinically with survivors of trauma and abuse, displacement and immigration, perinatal mental health challenges, and mood difficulties such as anxiety and depression.

Outside of work, I love reading, being in nature and spending time with family and friends. I'm infamous for my unbridled laugh and my love of theater. Inside the therapy space, you'll find me to be just as human as I am outside. I think therapy works best when we both bring the fullness of who we are into the room. I strive to be actively engaged with clients throughout the process, and I welcome clients from all backgrounds and identities. I am unequivocally LGBTQ+ affirming and am committed to practicing from an anti-racist framework.

I believe my clients are some of the most resilient people I know! I see my clients as the experts in their lives, so my approach is highly collaborative. I offer a compassionate, supportive presence, along with evidence-based tools such as EMDR that facilitate wellness and healing, and bring integration to mind and body.

It would be my honor to support you as you take the next brave step toward wholeness and healing. Reach out today to schedule a free 15-minute call to see if we might be a good fit.

Services

I offer individual psychotherapy for adults (18+) using evidence-based treatment methods such as EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness.
My areas of specialization include:

Trauma & Resilience

When stressful, sometimes life-changing events happen, they can overwhelm our capacity to cope. But our body and mind are incredibly wired to heal and recover. Therapy can offer compassionate tools that kickstart the innate healing process.

Perinatal Mental Health

Whether you are pregnant, trying to conceive, postpartum or have experienced a recent loss, the perinatal period can be challenging not just physically but mentally. Therapy can be a compassionate space to find healing, to be seen and to reconnect with yourself once again.

Depression & Anxiety

It is exhausting to live mired in anxious thinking or weighed down by depression. When you've been experiencing this for awhile, you need more than coping tools- you need a well-tended place to explore root causes and develop new ways of being for mind, mood, and body.

Wild forsythia blooms

Around me the trees stir in their leaves

and call out...“It's simple,” they say,

“and you too have come

into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled

with light, and to shine.”
